Case Study
Boss Cabins recently collaborated with one of the world’s leading event solutions providers Arena Group to trial our new generator-free welfare cabin GenFree™️ at one of their high profile busy events - The Open Golf Championships at the Royal Liverpool Club Club in Hoylake.
For the purpose of the trial, a Generator Free 24ft welfare unit with canteen, separate office, drying compartment and twin freshwater toilets was supplied by Boss Cabins customer, Reactive Hire.
Energy consumption and battery: Data from the occupancy monitor shows the cabin was used heavily throughout the five week period for over 7 hours per day, 7 days per week. Despite this, the battery State of Charge remained high for the entire period never dropping below 97% with full functionality of all times in the cabin throughout the period.
Heater: Only 8 litres of fuel were used in the heater during the five week period.
Waste: The toilet tanks only required to be pumped out twice during the five week period, whereas as in a conventional welfare cabin these would be pumped out weekly, saving three service visits to site.
Noise pollution: With no generator onboard, there was 100% silent operation at all times.
By replacing this standard ‘eco’ cabin with a GenFree unit for the period, Arena Group have directly saved during the period approx. 407 litres of fuel and avoided 1286kg of CO2 emissions. The fuel cost avoided is £875.
The toilet also only required to by pumped out twice rather than 5 times during the period saving another £225 over the period, plus avoiding the environmental impact of those visits to site by vehicles using fuel and emitting CO2.
In addition, by not having a generator on-board, the cabin avoids any generator servicing costs which in a cabin of this size would average out to £44 weekly. Over 5 weeks, a further £220 would have been saved.
