More usually seen on construction sites around the country, one of our GenFree cabins had a completely different experience recently and got to hang out in the chaos and craziness of one of the world’s most famous music festivals!
This year, organisers of the Somerset festival made a commitment to use only renewable energy on-site, and as part of this drive, Boss Cabins offered one of our GenFree generator free welfare cabins to production service specialist BPS for three weeks for them to use in the run-up to and during the event.
The festival is renowned for its 24-hour partying and non-stop festivities, and it turns out that welfare cabins are no exception to the hardcore action! When we analysed the data, it was clear that the cabin had really joined in the party spirit, with occupancy levels always more than 12 hours per day and 24 hours a day for 3 days over the main event. Plus, energy usage was more than 6 times what you’d expect in a standard welfare cabin, averaging out at about 6kWh per day, not far off the 8.5kWh you’d use in the average UK home!
Despite this proper workout, the GenFree more than kept up with the pace, providing all the energy needed from solar alone at all times, with no fuel use and no CO2 emissions whatsoever.
With the high occupancy and energy consumption, it’s estimated using the GenFree cabin in place of a standard ‘eco’ cabin with a diesel generator will have saved at least 300 litres of fuel being burnt over the period, avoiding around 950 kg of CO2 from being emitted and saving approx. £600 in fuel expense.
Martin Berry of BPS commented: “The Genfree unit was a great asset to have in the Green Futures zone where all fossil fuels are banned. The unit was primarily used to power the production office, charge Walkies and low-level safety lighting, which it did very well.”
Thanks to our customer Reactive Hire for supplying the unit for the event, as all our Boss demos were busy elsewhere at Plantworx!
